Lower TCO - Greener IT

The IBM XIV’s inbuilt software features (at no extra charge) contribute to power reduction and a lower TCO.

Thin provisioning, storage virtualisation, plus the IBM XIV system creates differential copies for backup instead of full copies, all enable you to use less storage than in traditional storage systems. This means less storage - less power!

• Cost-Effective - Up to 70% savings on Tier 1 storage costs inc s/w,
• Up to 80% reduction in power, space and cooling costs/TB,
• 70-80% reduction in storage operating cost (Elimination of storage tiering, data classification and performance tuning)

The traditional storage system is extremely expensive to operate as, on average, they consume between 76 and 89 per cent more power than IBM’s XIV.

Typically, an IBM XIV system consumes just 7.7 kW per rack, which holds 180 TB raw capacity. This results in a consumption level of only 43 watts per raw TB.

The IBM XIV system offers four to nine times improved power consumption, at comparable performance levels. It consumes just 11-24 per cent of the power per raw TB that the equivalent traditional system would and a mere 5-11 per cent of the power used to drive each effective TB.
